SC-RC works with participating university faculty and member companies to recruit high-quality Ph.D. students to work on identified research projects. The Institute consults with company mentors in recruiting students based on students' past academic record, research capability, system and project implementation skills, and possibly industry experiences. After a student joins the program and begins to work on a research project, the company mentor assists the academic advisor in providing feedback to students' research work so that his research work will have an impact to the industry. The student can take an internship to work with the mentor in the member company and learn how to apply the research work to real-world applications. Therefore, the company mentor will have the opportunity to work with the same and experienced student over multiple years, instead of re-training new students each year. The student will be a good candidate as a future employee of the member company.
